After attempting it for a while I decided I just wasn't interested anymore. I was having next to zero issues with difficulty up to this point. Next time I will definitely set that to auto.Īny way, I edited my save file so that I could actually enter the dungeon but I found the EXTREME difficulty spike very discouraging. I was doing kingdom management as well as I could balancing my severe disinterest in the kingdom management. My kingdom had been destroyed and honestly I didn't know why. I got a game over screen RIGHT as I was about to enter the final dungeon (not including the bonus chapter). This is nearly exactly my summary of the game as well, and I also just finished (well, we'll get to that in a second) a few nights ago. Owlcat set out to make a Pathfinder game on a computer, they didn't really set out to make a videogame that happens be to be based on the Pathfinder ruleset. Kingmaker has some great locations, great dungeons, great characters and great character quests, but it's buried under a lot of mechanics that could really have been streamlined a lot before release. I think one of the most telling stats I saw was on the "win the game" achievement in Steam - it's 8.3% of all players. I do really want to play Wrath of the Righteous now, so it's clearly done something right, but only after I've had a bit of a break. I can see why the people who love it, love it. Mind you I do applaud them for including something most other cRPGs barely touch. It's not that it was a bad idea, it just wasn't implemented terribly well. Now in fairness, since they launched it, you can turn a lot of that off (Kingdom Management can be automated & set not to fail) but then you are missing half the game. No, I don't want to do f*cking Kingdom Development, I just want to get on and finish the game! Towards the end of the game my patience was very nearly exhausted by this. You'll either be able to deal with that or not.

  • Because of this slavish adherence to the Pathfinder Ruleset, it's a game that has no respect for your time as a gamer.
  • As such it's entirely possible to build a character that will be completely useless by the later stages of the game - can't hit anything, gets permanently one-hit killed. Seriously, you need a PhD in the Pathfinder ruleset to understand it properly.
  • It has the most complex character building system I've ever encountered.
  • You have to do that because if your kingdom fails, the game ends.
  • It's pacing is all over the place - there are large sections where all do you it make numbers for your Kingdom stats go up.
  • I know that sounds good, but it really isn't, because
  • It's far too long - took me 150 hours to complete without really deviating all that much from what you'd consider the main plot & companion quests.
  • Honest! However, it has a lot of very idiosyncratic mechanics and design choices Oddly enough, I've just finished playing Pathfinder: Kingmaker last night.
